Why You Should Clean Your Rugs Often
If you knew how many pounds of dirt is in your rugs (and carpets), you might think twice before you or letting your children lay on there.
Wool rugs are particularly good at hiding dirt. Debris can also damage the structure of your rugs over time. Not to mention the germs and bacteria that’s been festering in them. Think about it, you’re stepping on it… and where have your feet been?… Crazy, right?
Rug and carpet specialists advise that you clean them more often than you’re probably cleaning them now. Here’s a simple guide on how to clean them.
Small Cotton or Wool Rugs
You can choose to wash rugs by hand with a mild detergent. Vacuum the rug first. Use a soft brush or a sponge gently work out stains and heavily soiled areas. Rinse thoroughly with water mixed with a small amount of white vinegar to remove any residue.
You want to dry the rug as quickly as possible. You may roll the rug inside a thick towel and stand on it to remove as much of the moisture as possible. Then hang it up to dry.

What Our Customers Are Saying
Small Synthetic Rugs
If the rug is sturdy and machine woven, you may clean it in a washing machine with a mild detergent and on a gentle cycle. Hang it to get it dry as quickly as possible.
Larger Area Rugs
It is recommended to hire a carpet/rug cleaning professional (like us) to clean your larger area rugs. Rug and carpet manufacturers recommend getting them cleaned every 6 months to a year.
Rug Maintenance Tips
Between those deep cleaning sessions, vacuum regularly.
Deal with spills immediately. If a still occurs, and your rug is colorfast, dampen with it a sponge dipped in a seltzer, applying as little liquid as possible. Blot the spot with a towel and attempt to apply pressure to remove as much water and moisture as you can.
If your rug’s dye is not colorfast, you may try using a mixture of 4-to-1 part cold water and white vinegar to clean the spill. Or, you may sprinkle some cornstarch on top of it and vacuum it up the next day (24 hours).
What Are Colorfast Rugs?
“Colorfastness” is a term used to refer to dye leaking out of the carpet. Colorfast dyed carpets or rugs is made to hold on to the color when its exposed to moisture, light, heat, and most cleaning products.
If you do not know whether or not your carpet’s dye is colorfast, you may test a small, discreet area of your rug/carpet with your cleaning product or cleaning method to find out if it has a negative effect on its dye or material itself.
Why Choose Dry Carpet Cleaning To Clean Your Rugs
You’ll notice one thing in common among the rug cleaning tips and maintenance mentioned above – it’s to limit moisture and dry the rugs a quickly as possible.
That’s advised for a reason.
Germs, bacteria, mold, and viruses, thrive and spread in damp and moist areas. So, if your rug or carpets are left wet or moist, you can best believe germs, bacteria, mold, viruses, etc. are growing and festering.
Your carpet may “look” clean, but it’s the unseen that could pose undesired hazards in your home.
We, at SaniClean Carpet Cleaning do not use water to clean your carpets or rugs.
Our proprietary alcohol-based dry carpet cleaning solution, process, and technology cleans, sanitizes, & disinfects your carpet without any harmful chemicals or cause damage to your carpet and its underlying padding.
We clean your rugs and carpentry as good as (if not better than) those other traditional “steam” and “shampoo” cleaners out there, but with the sanitizing benefit that prevents contamination and health hazards.
We’re your complete carpet cleaning, sanitation, and hazard prevention service company.
